Crew Leadership Training for Ecological Restoration

July 18, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

Where You’ll Be:
Classroom training will be held at Headwaters Alliance office in Creede, CO; and all field work will be on the Lower Willow Creek Floodplain.

What You’ll Do:
Headwaters Alliance is partnering with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) to bring a Crew Leadership for Ecological Restoration Training to Creede! Hosted through VOC’s Outdoor Stewardship Institute Training Program (OSI). This is a two-day weekend workshop where you will receive hands-on training in effective crew leadership and basic ecological restoration tasks including planting, seeding, and erosion control techniques. Workshop topics are directly applicable to any nonprofit or agency restoration project!

Please note: This training includes a self-paced, online component prior to the workshop in order to maximize efficiency and on-the-ground coursework. The online course is provided in partnership with Colorado Mountain College and takes an estimated 5-6 hours to complete. Trainees must register for, and complete, both the online coursework and the two-day field training on July 17 & 18 to be certified as a Crew Leader for Ecological Restoration.

All trainees will receive a Crew Leader Manual, a set of quick reference cards, and other materials to take home and refer to on the trail.

Why It Matters:  Crew Leaders are the backbone of outdoor stewardship projects. They educate new volunteers, lead crews in putting stewardship project plans into action, convey their sponsor’s mission to the community, and help ensure volunteers have a fun, safe, and rewarding experience! By pursuing a Crew Leader certification with OSI, you will expand your ability to perform high-quality stewardship work in Creede, CO and throughout Colorado.
